Syosset AYLUS Members Perform at VA Medical Center for Veterans 0n 05/25/24

On Saturday, May 25, Syosset AYLUS members performed at VA Medical Center at Northport. In honor of our veterans, the Fortune Star Band as well as other soloists performed during Memorial Day weekend. The Fortune Star Band was founded by young students that wish to spread their passion through music. Musicians throughout Nassau County all come together to rehearse and prepare for the many performances they give. Today, their program includes music from the early 60s to the twenty-first century. The band performed Viva La Vida, Sea of Stars, Stand By Me, Take On Me, Dancing Queen, and wrapped their portion of the performance with God Bless America. With each song and their own story to tell, the Fortune Star Band brought back memories and joy to the audience.

In addition, other groups such as a trio had the opportunity to perform after the band. Instruments varying from percussion to the traditional Chinese guzheng all had their time to shine. Musicians incorporated both traditional American and Chinese pieces into their performance. The day ended with soloist performances that everyone could enjoy. Volunteers helped set up all the equipment and materials needed for the show, recorded each performance to be uploaded to the band’s channel, and took time out of their weekend to make a veterans’ day with live music. The young musicians continue to diligently rehearse in preparation for their next show.

Volunteers: Rachel Zhang, Harrison King, Kaydence Pan, Niran Zuo, Nathan Chen, Eileen Liang, Thea Chen, Alexander Lin, Catherine Liu, Chloe Wu, Austin Lin, Yiru Zhang. ALL 3 HOURS.
