On 5/25/2024 members of AYLUS Syosset went to Jones Beach Airshow to help protect shorebirds from people disturbing them from incubating and destroying their nest. On the beach, there were fences set up to safeguard shorebirds. Inside the fence, we not only have shorebirds but also chicks in there that are the same color. During the airshow, the beach is expecting at least five thousand people actively moving on the beach, so we need at least 200+ volunteers spreading all around the beach avoiding people approaching the fence. Some of the reasons why shorebirds are protected by us are they are an endangered species also they are federally/state protected by the government so it’s important to keep them safe and go extinct. Members of AYLUS Syosset not only kept visitors away from the fence, but we also cleaned up lots of the garbage on the beach and we enjoy a great time on Jones Beach.
