The AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteers at Planting Fields Arboretum to help pull out vines and other invasive species. The trees in the area were already removed, so volunteers preceded to clean up the remaining plants scattered around the bottom. Volunteers used various tools like shovels, spades, and rakes to get rid of the invasive plants. Several truckloads worth of invasive species were removed.
This cleanup effort is part of our ongoing commitment to improving the ecological health of the arboretum, and the volunteers have plans to continue working on this project in the future. Volunteers worked from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM, dedicating our time to this important environmental task, and the ongoing involvement will be crucial to ensuring the long-term success of the arboretum’s restoration efforts. Through our volunteer work, we are helping to preserve the biodiversity of the park and create a healthier, more vibrant space for both local wildlife and visitors to enjoy.
