By 10:30 am on 4/27, we had all arrived at the pavilion. Everyone contributed their books, and even their own little attached notes, for the cause. They were each categorized for grades K-1, 2-4, and 5-6. We worked together to pack them all into the boxes. We counted the books as we neatly stacked them all to fit into the box, which were then labeled and weighed (they were about 30 lbs each)! We all helped each other and put in our best effort! The whole process of putting the books into the boxes went relatively swiftly! And then the tough part—or maybe less tough but more time-consuming part— came… TAPE. There were these tools that helped do the taping, and at first we didn’t know how it worked, but eventually we figured it out with the helpful guidance of the parents. These tasks may seem hard at first, but when you work with others, you can get the hang of it. We made sure that every edge and label was secured onto there. It’s truly all for the education for kids in Africa. Soon after we arrived at the nearby FedEx, where we met up with other volunteers to help us with the shipping. Which mainly included carrying those heavy boxes full of books to the FedEx person, who was really nice and took a photo with us! After that, we exchanged our goodbyes and took a sigh of relief after a long day of work. To quote one of the leaders of the group, “Everything will be smooth-sailing because our kids worked so hard to make this happen!”
