On 04/24/24, Columbus branch made and donated 27 handmade bracelets to Engineers Without Borders (EWB). These handmade bracelets were quality-controlled and selected by volunteers to make sure they had adjustable wrist strings, ceramic beads or flower knots, and good overall quality. The branch also donated $50 that members were able to fundraising through bookmark, book, and bracelet sale at the Ohio Chinese Festival celebration. The donations were made through collaborations established between AYLUS and EWB. Andrew Xia, an AYLUS-Columbus college mentor, helped to facilitate the connection.
Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is an international organization that applies engineering solutions to aid in the development of underprivileged communities through community-centered design. EWB-OSU is the student led chapter at The Ohio State University of the national organization. In addition to international projects, such as building a school for Ecuador, current local projects include designing and producing accessible bilateral stimulation tappers for patients with mental health issues, creating and implementing a bike powered pump for harvesting water from barrels for a tree nursery, etc.
Andrew Xia said that EWB-OSU plans to use the handmade bracelets in their future fundraising events and the $50 donation will be used in their Ecuador project.
