On April 5th, 2024, the Aylus Great Neck branch hosted a sports activity at Firefighter Park to promote a healthy lifestyle for our residents and special needs kids. Our volunteers, including Zhaoyu Liu, Zoe Xia, Austin Wang, Isla Zeng, Jason Zeng, Cody Ngo, Xingzhi Li, Andrew Qian, and Melody Fan, arrived at Firefighter Park at 5 pm. Andrew Qian and Melody Fan played ping pong, then joined the rope with a special needs child. Xingzhi Li first played tag with another special needs child, then joined the soccer game. Cody Ngo swung with a special needs child, then also joined the soccer game, while others were playing soccer. By actively involving children with special needs in various sports activities, the event served as a catalyst for integrating them into the community fabric, promoting interactions, and nurturing friendships across diverse abilities. Through inclusive play and exercise, participants, regardless of their differences, shared moments of joy, camaraderie, and physical fitness, highlighting the power of sports to transcend barriers and unite individuals. Moreover, the event acted as a beacon for promoting the love for sports among families, encouraging the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits from an early age. By showcasing the benefits of physical activity and the joy of sports participation, it aimed to inspire more parents and children to embrace sports as an integral part of their lives, thereby fostering a culture of wellness and vitality within the community. Furthermore, through teamwork-oriented activities like soccer, children learned essential life skills such as cooperation, communication, and sportsmanship, laying the foundation for their holistic development. Overall, the community sports event exemplified the transformative potential of inclusive sports initiatives in promoting social cohesion, physical well-being, and personal growth within communities.
