The AYLUS Dix Hills Branch volunteered with Island Harvest to help grow food. Specifically, AYLUS volunteers worked on clearing and flattening land to grow mushrooms. Volunteers worked to remove extra soil and placed it in active compost or used that soil to flatten the ground more. Volunteers used various tools such as metal rakes, shovels, clippers, pitchforks and wheelbarrows to accomplish their tasks. The purpose was to assist in growing food later on in the year to provide food for those who needed it. Volunteers worked from 9:30 to 12:30 to help create farmable land.
Volunteers: Bryan Fan (3.5 hrs) and Ru Xue Jiang (3 hrs).
