On March 24th, 2024, The Roslyn AYLUS Branch assisted The Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island (School of CCA) from 1:30 to 5:00 PM.
AYLUS volunteers were assigned to classrooms as TAs (teaching assistants) who help teachers supervise kids, keep them safe, and keep them on task. We encouraged them to pay attention, follow the teacher’s instructions, and answer questions. We assisted the children when they didn’t understand the task and repeated questions they didn’t hear. We comforted children who felt frustrated, homesick, or sad. We also walked kids to the bathroom, snack booth, and the water fountain.
There was a singing competition where kids would sing and get rated by judges. Afterwards there was culture class where students would learn different aspects of Chinese culture including arts & crafts, martial arts, and dance. We stayed and chatted with students until their parents picked them up.
