On February 23, 2024, 4 members of the AYLUS San Clemente Branch donated used batteries to a recycling center. Recycling batteries is good for the environment because the toxic materials within the batteries can be released into the environment and pose serious threats to not only wildlife but also human health.
The toxic materials within the batteries, when placed into landfills, can leak into the soil and reach our water supply, causing severe health issues. Recycling batteries instead is a healthier and more environmentally friendly alternative to just throwing away batteries in the trash and having them end up in landfills. Great job to the members who participated!
