At noon on February 24, 2024, the Aylus Roslyn Branch went to Greenvale Lane to work with people with Cerebral Palsy for 3 hours. Cerebral Palsy is a condition where individuals are less capable of body movement and coordination. We plan on helping them by both showing that we are their friends as well as showing them how well they can use their bodies. We started by introducing ourselves to the residents and the activities we would occupy them with. The first activity was a musical activity, where Zihan brought a bag full of handheld instruments, such as egg shakers, colorful ribbons, and a bongo drum. We handed these out to each of the residents, and using a Google Slides presentation, we were able to help them make beats and use their bodies. Next up, we used ingredients that we brought to make 2 pizzas for them. We assisted them in putting on pepperoni, cheese, and stretching out the dough. Our final activity was playing multiple games with them that involved motor skills, such as Go Fish with a giant deck of cards, a finger game where we put rings on a hand until we matched the picture provided, and finger painting, which was able to make some very pretty drawings. The residents were pleased with our company; one even said he hoped we return next week.
