San Diego Branch Organized “Used Glasses Donation Drive” on Jan 20-30, 2024

Countless people live in poverty. As a result, they cannot afford human necessities such as
glasses. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 2.2 billion people globally are
visually impaired. Most do not have access to eyeglasses, or cannot afford them.

Partnered with the Global Innovation Center (GIC), and the International Lions Club, AYLUS San Diego Branch organized the eyeglass drives in Canyon Crest Academy and Del Mar Community on Jan. 20-30, 2024 to help those with visual impairment. The “Used Glasses For Love” (UG4L) project is to collect 8000 glasses by the end of 2024.

 

A total of 29 pairs of used glasses were collected and will be re-examined by the professional optometrists in Lions eyeglass recycling program and distribute to people who can’t afford as the gift of vision back.

The following 19 members participated in the donation event and with 1.0 volunteer hour for each:
