Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is an international organization that applies engineering solutions to aid in the development of underprivileged communities through community-centered design. EWB-OSU is the student led chapter at The Ohio State University of the national organization. In addition to international projects, such as building a school for Ecuador, current local projects include designing and producing accessible bilateral stimulation tappers for patients with mental health issues, creating and implementing a bike powered pump for harvesting water from barrels for a tree nursery, etc.
On EWB-OSU officer is an AYLUS-Columbus alumni. He reached out to our group seeking for collaboration. After discussion through emails, the collaboration is established. On 01/28/24, the two team met on Zoom and started the collaboration, determining the logistics for the first collaborative project: Fundraising sale of AP, SAT, or ACT books and handmade bracelets; collecting donations on Lunar New Year Event at a local high school on 2/1/24. The student leaders have started collecting books from student volunteers for the event.
AYLUS-Columbus also seeks to get mentorship from EWB-OSU in the future. They also discussed the possibility of further fundraising events through a Jerome mental health club since EWB-OSU also has projects supporting mental health.
