On Friday, December 22, 2023, AYLUS Bellaire Branch volunteered at Ben Taub Hospital for its Day of Service in preparation for the holidays. Ben Taub Hospital is an outstanding acute care facility, elite Level I trauma center, and public hospital located at the heart of the Texas Medical Center.
In the morning, volunteers worked together to assemble scarves as gifts for patients, wrapping a total of 347 scarves by the end of both shifts. Others sorted cards to be delivered to both staff and patients on different occasions such as birthdays, doctor day, and nurse week. Some members were also able to help clean up patient rooms in the clinics, as well as take down blood drive posters around the hospital.
In the afternoon, volunteers delivered scarves to different centers and clinics around the tower and hospital. Then, they packaged snacks for patients, checked for expiration dates, and marked sticker labels. Afterward, volunteers helped sort and fold clothing for the Compassionate Clothing Closet into boxes.
