Frisco & Plano Branch packed (11/11) and shipped (11/13) over 1000 books to Uganda for Libraries of Love

Reported by Bruce Wu

On November 11th, 2023, members of the AYLUS Frisco & Plano Branch diligently assembled and labeled boxes containing a total of 1,046 books, suitable for K-8th grade reading levels, intended for dispatch to Uganda. These books were meticulously organized by grade level, building upon prior sorting efforts. Additionally, heartfelt letters of inspiration for the children were composed and thoughtfully placed in each box, alongside labels facilitating the scanning process.

Following the completion of the packaging process, members ensured that each of the 36 boxes met the stringent 35-pound weight limit, utilizing a weight scale. The shipping cost exceeded a thousand dollars, attributable to the considerable weight resulting from a substantial number of hardcover books. However, due to the postal office being closed for Veterans Day, members came back on November 13th afternoon for the shipment. Despite the challenges encountered with timing and book procurement, the AYLUS Frisco & Plano branch remained steadfast in its commitment to providing a unique and meaningful opportunity to children in need.

Notably, the Rukiga District Community lacked a dedicated library, and The AYLUS Frisco & Plano Branch takes pride in being the first book drive to align with their needs, offering a promising prospect to the children of the district.
