September is Suicide Prevention Month in the United States. In order to raise mental health awareness, with the approval from the AYLF board of directors, now through the end of September, national AYLUS mental health committee conducted a mental health related anonymous survey across all the branches to take a snapshot of mental health status of American teens and preteens (Grades 5-12) and collect publicly available mental health resources offered by schools or other official sources.
Columbus branch member Brenna Li, was the mental health committee chair, who organized the event. She prepared the project proposal and obtained approval from the AYLUS board of directors. She prepared and distributed the event flyer to AYLUS branches and promoted the events. The event was well participated by more than 30 branches, totaling 418 surveys collected.
Columbus branch members actively participated in the event and submitted 42 mental health surveys. Some of the members submitted mental health resource information and some referred the surveys to non-members.
