Recently, we were notified that the Agape special needs program at a local church needed some help from volunteers. We contacted them and scheduled a volunteer event on the morning of September 2, 2023. We understood that working with special needs kids would give us the opportunity to impact the lives of children who have disabilities, learning disorders, and developmental delays. Four members gathered together at the church and the special education teacher from Plano ISD gave us training on how to interact, talk, and play with the special needs kids. Then we joined the 9 special needs kids’ group in talking, dancing, and drawing. Each kid had a different character and each member enjoyed getting to know and interacting with each kid. In addition, we offered both cotton candy and freshly squeezed lemonade for the kids to enjoy and for the other volunteers and teachers to support their hard work. We learned the importance of patience, persistence, grace and humility and the true meaning of courage, tenacity and displaying acts of kindness each and every day.
