The AYLUS Birmingham Branch partnered with Grace Klein, an organization dedicated to sharing resources for the purpose of building relationships to ignite restoration of individuals, families, and communities. Grace Klein holds drive-thru sites to fight food insecurities and provides a variety of other resources for families, including baby products as well as school supplies for children. The organization also has community homes, where it hosts individuals in need of a place to stay and provides resources for them to thrive.
On August 7, members of the Birmingham Branch helped facilitate a food drive-thru organized by Grace Klein. Volunteers sorted through food items including bread, cereal, sweets, and an assortment of produce, making sure that all items were good for human consumption. Any items that did not meet sufficient human standards but were okay for animal consumption were put in a box to be taken to a local farm. Members also built cardboard boxes and packed them with a variety of food types, making sure each box had enough nutritious and diverse food options for the recipients. They later stacked boxes to be transported to the drive-thru and helped place these boxes into individual cars.
