On June 25, 2023, AYLUS Twin Cities visited Plymouth Towne Square from 1-3 PM, and the event included a recital and a sing-along workshop. For the performances, Zachray performed on the viola, Hannabella performed on the cello, Jeffrey performed on the piano, Ellen performed on the violin, and Alice Yi performed on the flute, and Olivia helped ensure a smooth transition by moderating the schedule. Afterwards, Curtis and Ahan helped teach several songs to the seniors (This Land is Your Land, Party in the USA, California Dreamin’) and provided a music video so everyone had something to sing to. Singing and performing to the seniors not only helped us gain performance experience but also helped the seniors, many of whom stayed after the event to share their excitement. What made this event so special is that everyone enthusiastically joined in the singing and encouraged others around them to sing out as well. Being able to see everyone having a good time and fully immersing themselves in the music truly proved the adage “music is the medicine of the soul,” not just for the seniors but also for ourselves.
