On May 30, 2023, members of the Raritan Valley branch participated in helping the seniors at the Chelsa in East Brunswick. We learned about how to take care of the elderly at The Chelsea and learned about the schedule of their daily activities. We were split into 3 groups and learned about how to communicate with the elderly, draw with them, do yoga, and sing with them.
We were seated at different activities and jobs that were assigned to us. We were split into 2 different jobs which were to talk and draw with the seniors, while using the best tablet to draw on. The other was to provide water for the seniors by handing out cups. This continued for around 20-30 minutes. The people who were also split to hand out water were also exercising with the seniors by participating in their morning routine. After the morning workout, we began the song playlist which was a list of songs that the seniors would sing to. We also played brain teasers and took a refreshing walk with the residents.
This was a wonderful experience and it was very fun talking to and interacting with the elders. All of the seniors were wonderful and kind to all of us and I think this is an event that we should always remember.
