Raritan Valley AYLUS Presented Spring Music Festival to Seniors at the Chelsea on May 21, 2023

On May 21, 2023, volunteers of Raritan Valley AYLUS visited the Chelsea at East Brunswick and presented the Spring Music Festival to the senior residents of this assisted-living facility. As the program start time approached, the performance area was quickly filled up by the elderly, who came in excitement from their rooms with rolling walkers, canes, or wheelchairs. The pleasing sounds of classical music played by our pianists and cellist brought tranquility and relaxation to the audience’s faces, while the lively, jazzy melodies from the band made the crowd “dance” in their seats. The performance ended with a cheerful festive atmosphere, filling the residents’ eyes with joy. It has been demonstrated by research that music benefits our health physically and emotionally, especially in improving the well-being and quality of life among the aging population. Seeing our musical skills make a difference in the life of the elderly is encouraging and fulfilling.
