In May 2023, the dedicated junior members of AYLUS Pearland continued their efforts in providing online tutoring services. Gregory Song, Gavin Song, Alex Song, Wyatt Yin, Christy Zheng, and Clara Liu collectively conducted 9 engaging English sessions, catering to three different classes. One of these classes catered to two second-grade students residing in the Greater Houston area, while the other two classes consisted of students based in China. The students’ grade levels ranged from kindergarten to 3rd grade.
To ensure a comprehensive and structured learning experience, the volunteers utilized the Brian Storm and Reading A-Z teaching curricula. These resources proved highly effective in facilitating the students’ cognitive reading skills, resulting in notable improvements throughout the month.
The lessons conducted in May primarily focused on vocabulary and phonics. The curriculum was thoughtfully designed, starting with an exploration of various locations at the beginning of the month. As the lessons progressed, the students delved into school topics, familiarizing themselves with relevant vocabulary and concepts. Towards the end of the month, the focus shifted to the captivating subject of marine life, allowing the students to expand their knowledge in an engaging manner.
The total fund raised in May from Jr online tutoring program was $75. All proceeds will be donated to AYLUS Pearland Fund which supports school clubs and underserved communities.
