On May 13, 2023, 6 members of the East Pittsburgh Aylus branch organized a heartwarming community event to celebrate Mother’s Day by making paper flowers and distributing them to senior neighbors. The event aimed to spread joy and appreciation for mothers. For preparations regarding the handmade flowers, Volunteers were divided, each assigned to a crafting station equipped with all the necessary supplies. For example, one station was designated to paint wooden dowl rods green to look like the stem of the flower while another station was designated to make the individual petals of the flower. Some other stations was curling flower petals, making flower leaves, gluing/taping, tying ribbons. This process actually took unexpectedly long, but after we finished, we took the homemade flowers, and went around the neighborhood and distributed most of them to senior mothers as we thought that their children might not be with them on this special day. As we approached each doorstep, we warmly wished the residents a Happy Mother’s Day and presented them with our colorful and heartfelt creations. The recipients were overjoyed and deeply touched by the kind gesture, appreciating the effort put into the handmade flowers and the sense of community spirit.
