On Saturday from 9:30am -12:00pm, the Roslyn Branch volunteered at Bethpage state park to help clean up the park.
Our group were tasked to remove the mugworts from the garden. Mugworts is an invasive species known for overgrowing and overshadowing the native plants Goldenrod and Golden Alexander, both important food sources to the native butterfly larva in the area. Goldenrod is a tall thin plant with thin leaves and the Golden Alexander is a small plant with a little flower on top, often confused with dandelions. We used various tools to help remove the invasives and gathered them into buckets.
