AYLUS Dix Hills Branch works with Half Hollow Hills Library to educate parents about student beneficial library programs as well as children on March 1, 2023. Librarians organized the process with which the tutoring/homework process will be executed and trained volunteers on what would be happening.  Volunteers learned that the homework help has helped 30+ students from grades k-5 for long periods of time, significantly bringing up their confidence in their academic learning as well as their grades, but was stopped due to COVID-19 and the fear of close proximity. To re-engage parents about the qualities of the homework help program, volunteers went around the library to educate parents with their children about a new program. Volunteers were able to impart information about the program to a parent that had a child that was struggling to learn in elementary school and greatly appreciated our efforts to teach others. At the end, AYLUS Dix Hills members were able to briefly tutor mathematics, greatly improving learning experience.

AYLUS Dix Hills hopes to make a positive impact on the community’s academic environment as well as children’s mental well-being.

Volunteers: Ru Xue Jiang (1 hour and 30 minutes), Asiya Hasanoff (1 hour), Brian Ou (1 hour), Aisha Rahimi (1 hour), Nayaab Afzal (1 hour), and Lilian Chen (1 hour).
