Greater Princeton AYLUS Volunteers at Forest Restoration Events (33rd) on February 11th, 2023

On Saturday, February 11th, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) conservation team joined the communities again for the Forest Restoration events at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve in Princeton.

GPA members joined for a Day of Service in Nature, during this session, volunteers helped to restore habitat at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve in Princeton, NJ. FOPOS Director of Natural Resources and Stewardship went over some winter plant identification tips, and then they used pruners, loopers, and handsaws to cut back target invasive species such as Japanese honeysuckle and Multiflora rose. Invasive plants can really overtake a site, preventing native species and future canopy trees from growing.

Volunteers worked under the guidance of FOPOS’ Natural Resources and Stewardship Director, Anna Corichi, on various tasks such as invasive species management, plant care, and caging young trees to protect from deer browse within the restoration project areas at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve.

Participants (2/11, 2 hrs): Katie Qin, Ashley Wu, Mingze Feng, Johnathan An, Lauren Finkel, Kevin He, Nathan Sibo Cui, Zhihan Zhang, Ziqi Zhang, Claire Tang, Larry Hu, Eric Li, Eddy Tian, Emma Tian, and more!
