AYLUS Manhasset took part in a day-long volunteering activity at Riverhead. We arrived at around 9:30 in the morning and split up into two groups.
One of the groups helped pick corn and to organize the stores, while the other group worked on painting the farmhouse we were working on last time (See previous post on the topic). We decided to repaint the stems and leaves of the roses green and to keep this red and green color scheme on the other side of the building.
At lunchtime, we prepared organic chicken broth and a slew of various vegetables gathered from the farm. As it was now 2 PM, most work was done in the shade in order to escape the midday heat. However, due to time concerns the second group kept painting until two hours later. Overall, this event was a success due to the amount of work our group did in helping out the employees of the farm. Secondly, we continued painting the farmhouse from half a year ago when our Manhasset team first volunteered at the farmstead.
