Throughout the summer, AYLUS Raritan Valley Branch members have been hard at work tutoring their overseas students, despite conflicting schedules between the tutors and tutees. Similar to their students, some AYLUS members went on vacation or attended summer programs, and therefore were unable to go to class. Nevertheless, the tutors have continually improved their techniques and begun to teach new units. Most tutors taught English through the traditional method of teaching interpersonal and interpretive skills, but other tutors taught English by talking about a topic that both the student and teacher were interested in, such as current events in the US or the basics of economics.
Even though the school year is approaching quickly, many tutors and their students expect to continue their lessons. Many of the students have been with the tutors for well over a year, which is a testament to the creativity and passion that AYLUS members have brought to each class.
