On July 31st, 2022, the AYLUS branch of San Fernando Valley spread out across the West Hills neighborhood and volunteered for 4 hours, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Members Jason Xie, Benjamin Kozikaro-Sanchez, Aaron Hekmatjah and Nicolas Storch went house-to-house, knocking on more than 50 doors and asking neighbors to write kind thoughtful messages for the elderly in their local senior center on cards.
All in all, we gathered 17 cards, each filled with kind messages written by the community. The branch then handed out these cards to the residents of The Preserve at Woodland Hills senior center.
Benjamin Kozikaro-Sanchez verified first with the senior center before organizing and leading the event, earning him an extra hour for his hard work! Big thanks to the senior center for their cooperation, and thank you to Ben for leading this event! The members also each wrote a card of their own to show appreciation and care for the residents.
Participants:
Jason Xie: (4 hours)
Aaron Hekmatjah: (4 hours)
Benjamin Kozikaro-Sanchez (5 hours)
Marc Hua*: (1 hour)
Nicolas Storch: (4 hours)
*Though member Marc Hua couldn’t come to the event, he still wrote a card to participate and helped discuss the event with the board, earning him a hour of volunteer credit.
