On April 2, 2022, 10 AYLUS Pearland volunteers went to Ed White Elementary School to tutor kids in different subjects such as math and reading in preparation for STAAR. Helping the kids started from 9 AM to 12 PM. The volunteers earnestly worked with students from 3rd to 5th grade. The students did assignments such as going over questions in their textbooks, using online learning resources, and going over task cards. The kids were also in rotation, allowing them to receive help for different subjects. The volunteers and students left earlier today compared to the other days of working with Ed White Elementary School. However, this did not discourage the growth and development of the students’ academic capability. The volunteers helped as much as possible while developing a bond with the kids. Both volunteers and students gained new knowledge and experience from this interaction.
In addition of the 3 hours of tutoring, volunteers also spent 1 hour commute.
Today’s volunteers are: Erica Gao, Wendy Yin, Callie Meng, Jonathan Niu, Matthew Niu, Alex Sun, William Sun, Alvin Zheng, Jordan Zheng, and Alex Dai
