The Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) Sports Committee continues Tournaments and a new chess schedule with classes (Master Your Endgames) in 2022.
GPA created a new chess class weekly through the end of the year. Each week, we go by the student’s skill level and solve puzzles such as checkmates in 2. For this week we set up tactics based on the student’s level, solving checkmates in two moves ranging from endgame positions to middlegame deep calculations. This weekly tactic training will help eager kids improve their envisioning and imaginative thoughts through chess.
With the tournament starting, over 85 people joined the club to compete in this week’s tournament. Before the tournament started, there was an informational meeting held on zoom to discuss the rules about the tournament and to introduce AYLUS to the participants that are not familiar with the organization, along with mentioning how to donate to help the community.
The tournament started at 7:00 PM EST with many participants, in an 1 hour arena style tournament. Many intense games were played with many close games. When the tournament concluded, “Ucbmoving” (3 wins, 0 loss, 0 draw) got first place with 9 points followed by “zhengyuchen101” (2 wins, 1 loss, 0 draw) came in second place with 5 points and “linongyan” (1 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw) closely following with 3 points and claiming third place. Everyone had fun during this tournament and got the chance to play against a variety of different opponents with different skill levels.
GPA Chess Club’s next tournament will be hosted on Saturday, March 5th, starting at 7PM EST. The time control will remain the same (G10+5) and everyone is welcome. All ages can come and compete with their skills and have fun playing games of chess.
