In January, Greater Memphis Branch members tutored different subjects:
Tim Zhu tutored Yuan Yuan Chen,
On January 7, the lesson lasted for 2 hours. The lesson was to enhance Yuan Yuan’s ability to speak fluently and answer everyday questions. In the class, they started off with questions including “How was your day?”, “How was your New Year?”, and “Where did you go for your last vacation?” Yuan Yuan would then answer the questions while Tim corrected her on any mispronunciation. They would then drill vocabulary words. After a short break, they finished by having conversations to develop Yuan Yuan’s speaking and comprehension skills.
On January 14, the lesson with Yuan Yuan Chen lasted for 2 hours. The purpose of this lesson was to teach her how to speak more natively and understand what other native speakers are saying. At first, Tim taught her how to pronounce basic and common sentences like, “How are you,” “How do you do,” and “What are you doing”. Then, Tim taught her tips and shortcuts on pronouncing words. For the remainder of class, they asked each other questions to improve Yuan Yuan’s conversation skills.
On January 12th, 19th and 26th, Emily Zhao tutored Wu Shang for 30 minutes each time. For the first two lessons, they completed reading comprehension worksheets, and for the third lesson, they read a book together.
