This summer and fall, a new project of our organization has been to collect donations and fundraise for our local library in hopes to aid children and people without access to books and help those who love to read. The current pandemic has trapped people at home, leaving people without the easy access to libraries as they once had. This has led to a higher demand for books than ever before, increasing the importance of libraries. So, we wanted to contribute back to the very place we regularly visited.
Throughout the start of the school year, we spent weekends standing near supermarkets, searching for places that allowed us to collect donations from passersby. We soon found that this task was not as easy as we initially thought, since we were faced with many rejections; however, we began brainstorming other ideas. After collecting used clothes, shoes, furniture, kitchen appliances, toys, and books from members of our organization, we hosted garage sales. We even opened lemonade stands and sold duck eggs laid by our own ducks. And finally, as an extra method of collecting funds, we went and asked door-to-door for donations. Harris led middle and elementary school students to raise a total of 1,520.37 dollars for the Collierville Burch Library. Alan Cheng led others to raise a total of 515 dollars to the Germantown community Library.
