AYLUS Manhasset Holds Python Class (Week 2, 11/13/2021)

This event took place on Saturday, November 13, 2021, from 5:00 – 6:30. The lesson was taught on zoom. Similarly to last time, the zoom was interrupted 2 times, and 3 zoom sessions were required for the entire class because free zoom has a time limit of 45 minutes duration while this class is one and a half hours long

Around 11 people participated in this class today. Although class participation was not the highest, a few good questions were asked. Explaining course material slower a second time seemed to help people understand, but some students still struggled with the material.

For the second class, we went over the lists and tuples. The class consisted of 3 parts, a lecture, a practice, and a review. In the lecture, we introduced new material with some practice questions to reinforce ideas. Based on the first two classes, the lecture usually takes around 45-60 minutes. This results in less time for practice questions, so we allow students to answer the questions for the next 30 minutes. For the review section, we stay on the zoom after the class is over to go over answers. Students are allowed to leave, but they can also stay for the review. All course notes, practice, and answer keys were posted and students were encouraged to read them if anything was unclear. We want to try reviewing the answers for previous weeks at the beginning of classes, as it can also help review the material taught during the last week.

Generally, this class was better than the previous class. Some students seemed to understand the material, but it is difficult for students to catch up if they are lost on previous material. Reading the posted course notes was highly recommended in order to help students catch up.
