On October 29th, the Greater Princeton branch of AYLUS (GPA) and National Career Development Committee continued its Career Development Seminars open to all American students. The seminars introduce the professional requirements and industry status of different occupations to young people, helping students choose their future life directions.
Topic of this seminar is about Science & Liberal Arts: What do academics look like? Learn how to direct your life towards a professor in academics!
On the 7th Seminar, Dean Belfield discussed opportunities in the sciences and liberal arts, including several visionary new degree programs and their career prospects.
The New Jersey Institute of Technology is New Jersey’s only public polytechnic university and provides outstanding career preparation with its graduates typically receiving 3 to 4 job offers or admission to top graduate or medical schools by the time they graduate.
Dr. Kevin Belfield received the B.S. degree in Chemistry from Rochester Institute of Technology, Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Syracuse University, and performed postdoctoral research at SUNY College of Environmental and Forestry and at Harvard University. While at Harvard University he was a member of the John F. Kennedy School of Government’s Center for Science and International Affairs. After faculty positions at the University of Detroit Mercy and the University of Central Florida, including 10 years as Chair of the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Belfield joined NJIT as Dean of the College of Science and Liberal Arts at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Professor of Chemistry and Environmental Science in 2014. Dr. Belfield led the development of NJIT’s Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Science – the first and only B.S. Forensic Science degree program in New Jersey – and the Bachelor of Science in Cyberpsychology degree program – the first such program in the United States. He also created the nation’s first Professional Science Masters Cell and Gene Therapy Sciences degree program. Dr. Belfield is also the Becton Dickinson Endowed Research Professor at NJIT, was elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2013 and Fellow of the American Chemical Society in 2019.
