Greater Princeton AYLUS Continues Education Help Program (63rd) in September 2021

In September, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) students continued their Education Help Program. Although schools are restarting, some middle school students are still looking for tutoring classes to improve their academic skills in classes like math, science, or reading. Because of this, GPA is holding tutoring opportunities in core subjects.

GPA members (9/29, 2 hrs) Karen Yang and Kevin Song: Today was our third writers’ workshop! First, Kevin made a video recapping what we did last week with memoirs and discussions. Then we talked about upcoming announcements (including a political advocacy workshop I’m hosting and a writing competition in the works!). We then did a warm up with a piece of music, the arrival of the birds with the London Symphony Orchestra and students wrote about their feelings, what they heard/imagined/experienced. Then we split into breakout rooms, one for free writing/revising past writing, one for a lesson on memoirs. We’ll be meeting next week.

GPA member Judy Zhang has been teaching summer camp at Princeton Learning Experience on Mondays & Wednesdays, August – September (8/2, 8/4, 8/9, 8/11, 8/16, 8/18, 8/23, 8/25, 8/30, 9/1, 9/6, 9/8, 9/13, 9/15, 9/20, 9/22, 2 hrs/day, in total 32 hrs). She taught her grade 2 students on Language arts classes: creative writing and reading (A lesson plan: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Y5TCtTH-zAXYZQvGJgF_56oXmfmEySy_InByV3IiH98/edit ).

The program allows GPA members to provide reading, writing, speaking, communication, and more to their students across the country.
