In September, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) students continued their in person Education Help Program. Although schools are restarting, some middle school students are still looking for tutoring classes to improve their academic skills in classes like math, science, or reading. Because of this, GPA is holding tutoring opportunities in core subjects.
Catherine (9/5, 3 hrs) tutored her student in math: This week, we focused on Greatest Common Factors (GCF) and Least Common Multiples (LCM). We solved questions related to GCF using the Euclidean Algorithm, which we went over during class. For LCM, we started with numerical problems and then tried some word problems, where we used some algebraic concepts.
Catherine tutored another student in reading (9/5, 1 hr): I read three picture books with them about food, modes of transportation, and the planets. We then discussed their contents and illustrations.
Sophia Song (9/7, 2 hrs; 9/1, 2 hrs), Annie Miao (9/1, 2 hrs) tutored their students in math: They continued discussing the rules of different shapes and started doing problems that use variables. Annie finished up reviewing 2D shapes with her tutee and started discussing 3D shapes, their rules, and how to find volume.
The program allows GPA members to provide reading, writing, speaking, communication, and more to their students across the country.
