AYLUS Manhasset’s members went to Syosset to volunteer at Syosset’s heart and sole running event. Volunteers helped to distribute shirts to runners that were performing that day and wrote down extra shipments in case we did not have the shirt sizes that were requested. We would ask them what shirt size they wanted and would hand out shirts accordingly. If we did not have the appropriately sized shirt, due to an increased demand for larger sized shirts, they would have had to be requested by the company by writing down recipients on paper. After the runners departed, volunteers helped put away extra shirts into a cardboard box. As the runners came back across the finish line, we were kept busy by fetching bottles of cold water from buckets filled with melting ice. The conclusion of the race was a very long event that lasted for approximately an hour, as runners returned to the starting location in various states of fatigue. However, they were all grateful for our efforts in delivering ice-cold water to them after their exertion. Volunteers stayed after the race to help clean up. In conclusion, the Syosset heart/sole running event was a strenuous workout, not only for the runners but for the volunteers who were all kept very busy.
The following AYLUS members volunteered at this event: Loretta Liu(3 hours), Benjamin Yang(3 hours), and Matthew yang(3 hours).
