Greater Princeton AYLUS Continues Education Help Program (53rd) in July 2021

In July, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) students continued their Education Help Program. As school ends and summer break starts, some middle school students are looking for tutoring classes to improve their academic skills in classes like math, science, or reading. Because of this, GPA is holding tutoring opportunities in core subjects.

In this week’s tutoring session, GPA member Sophia Song (7/13, 2 hrs) helped her tutee with Algebra 2. Annie Miao (7/14, 2 hrs) started off by giving her tutee a final review of percentages for the summer with multi-step word problems. They then transitioned into a discussion on proportions and ratios.

GPA members Karen Yang (7/18, 2 hrs) and Kevin Song (7/18, 3 hrs): This week we began with a warm up question and then jumped into solving inequalities. We explained what “greater than and equal to” and “lesser than and equal to” inequalities were and how they looked on the number line. We also discussed how to solve these equations and how to graph them, using Desmos. Students paid attention to slope, intersections and graphing. We then introduced next week’s homework and played a fun math game. We’ll be having class next week!

GPA member Yan Fischer (7/18, 2 hrs) helped his tutee with English reading.

The program allows GPA members to provide reading, writing, speaking, communication, and more to their students across the country.
