Greater Princeton AYLUS Hosts (3rd) Career Development Seminar on Financial Industry in June 2021

In June, the Greater Princeton branch of AYLUS (GPA) and National Career Development Committee continued its Career Development Seminars open to all American students. The seminars introduce the professional requirements and industry status of different occupations to young people, helping students choose their future life directions.

Topic of this seminar is about the financial industry: What does the financial industry look like? Learn how to direct your life towards computer science and the financial industry!

Financial services are the economic services provided by the finance industry, which encompasses a broad range of businesses that manage money, including credit unions, banks, credit-card companies, insurance companies, accountancy companies, consumer-finance companies, stock brokerages, investment funds, individual managers, and some government-sponsored enterprises.

On June 13th, we invited J.P. Morgan executive director, Dr. Xiaotao Wu, who spoke about his experience as an engineer on Wall Street and the challenges that students will face going into the computer science major. Throughout the seminar Dr. Wu discussed important details such as the qualities, goals, communication skills, and talents that are needed to succeed in the Financial Engineering Industry. He also speaks on the importance of different technical skills and majors that are needed, as well as the challenges students should expect going into the industry.

Prior to JP Morgan, Dr. Wu held R&D positions at Bloomberg and Fidelity. Before joining the financial industry, he was a research scientist at Avaya Labs Research, with 12 granted patents and 50+ peer-reviewed publications.
