On March 28, 2021, 4 members of the East Cobb branch of AYLUS did gardening. First, we had to go to Home Depot to buy some supplies. We bought nutrient-rich soil, cow manure, and vegetable plants. After returning from Home Depot, we first mixed the nutrient-rich soil into the nutrient-poor dirt. After that we mixed in the cow manure for fertilizer. Finally, we planted the vegetable plants into the soil and watered them.
Plants have many positive effects on the environment. They can clean the air and ground with photosynthesis and their roots. When well placed, trees and shrubs can make your living space cooler, reducing the need for AC, reducing the use of fossil fuels. Growing your own food reduces your carbon footprint. They also prevent soil erosion, replenish nutrients in the soil, reduce noise pollution, and support beneficial insects and birds.
