On 4/11/21, AYLUS Syosset member John Thach individually tutored student Jake Li in English and professional Email writing in a two hour session. This supplemental support was offered in order to increase their essay writing abilities as well as to prepare them for a professional or business environment, where Emails are frequently utilized.
First came a proofreading of an essay drafted by the student. The tutor then advised the student on how to improve the essay, making suggestions as it was read. This was done using a combination of Google Docs’ ‘suggestions’ feature, which allows the tutor to make comments without altering the existing text, as well as live, verbal instructions.
Once the suggestions were completed, the student edited their essay, revising under supervision. The student was encouraged to read it out loud to check for fluidity.
Lastly, a thirty minute lesson on professional Email writing was conducted. In the lesson, the student learned proper etiquette and formatting of essays, the components of an Email. Later, the student wrote his own Email under direct supervision of the tutor.
