Greater Princeton AYLUS Concludes Six Months Science Olympiad Virtual Courses for Students in April 2021

In April, the Greater Princeton branch of AYLUS (GPA) members concluded their six months Science Olympiad virtual courses for high school students. Realizing so many people lacked food because of the pandemic, GPA members including Allen Zhang and Kevin Song, both active members in the WW-P High School South Science Club and Olympiad Team, teamed up with their friends then volunteered to teach science courses and raised funds for the Community FoodBank.

Allen volunteered to instruct a science course Ornithology to middle-school students, who learned how to identify North American bird species and understand their general characteristics, including anatomy, behavior, and ecology. The course covers bird ID, bird calls, migration patterns, and other bird basics.

As both a course supervisor and teacher, Allen Zhang and Kevin Song designed and supervised the teaching of these courses, and also taught 10 students in introductory and advanced Ornithology. Their students liked the courses and gave them great reviews after the courses. The courses lasted from October 2020 to April 2021 every Sunday night for 2 hours (10/11/2020, 10/18/2020, 10/25/2020, 11/1/2020, 11/8/2020, 11/15/2020, 11/22/2020, 11/29/2020, 12/6/2020, 12/13/2020, 12/20/2020, 12/27/2020, 1/3/2021, 1/10/2021, 1/17/2021, 1/24/2021, 1/31/2021, 2/7/2021, 2/14/2021, 2/21/2021, 2/28/2021, 3/7/2021, 3/14/2021, 3/21/2021, 3/28/2021, 4/4/2021).
