Chapel Hill Branch Runs a Virtual Tutoring Program (Session 1) for Local Students from January to March 2021

During the pandemic times, the AYLUS community decided to tutor elementary and middle school students virtually. Since it is especially difficult for young students to be motivated to do schoolwork in such chaotic times, our goal was to provide a service that helped certain students through homework or certain areas of topics in which they struggled. We communicated with the parents to set up zoom sessions, created a spreadsheet that consisted of the tutoring schedule and kept a document of the summaries of the sessions each tutor wrote after every meeting. 

We had such an amazing time tutoring these bright and brilliant students. We had such a fun time preparing lessons to teach and working through their homework with them in addition to building up their confidence and skill set during certain subjects. In addition to our AYLUS members, some volunteers from the National Honors Society (NHS) in East Chapel Hill High School wanted to take part in the event as well. The tutoring sessions took place from Monday to Friday. We proudly announce that altogether we have dedicated 86 hours to the tutoring of these local students! Our next step will be to continue these sessions with each student assigned to one tutor.
