When Hurricane Harvey devastated the citizens of Texas and Louisiana in 2017, AYLUS Basking Ridge hosted a charity concert which raised $3,412 for disaster relief through the Red Cross (Find more info here). Now, once again, we are calling upon our community to help us combat a very critical problem: food insecurity during the coronavirus pandemic.
In the United States, 22 million children rely on free or reduced-price lunches at school. However, due to the coronavirus, schools have been closed, with opening dates still unclear. With these closures, these 22 million children are no longer guaranteed school meals. Additionally, with many jobs on the line, parents further struggle to put food on the table, making the need for free school lunches even more dire.
During this pandemic, No Kid Hungry, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has been working with schools, towns, and community centers all over America to feed kids millions of meals everyday (Learn more about what No Kid Hungry has been doing during the pandemic).
As community youth leaders, we want to use our passion for music and performing to raise awareness about the impacts of the pandemic on less fortunate communities. We hope that you will help us contribute to the fight against childhood food insecurity in these unsure times by donating to this GoFundMe. 100% of the money donated will go to Share Our Strength, the parent organization of No Kid Hungry, and will then go on to the No Kid Hungry organization.
