During the second week in October, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) students continued their Bilingual Tutoring Program. The program allows GPA members to provide English/Chinese reading, writing, speaking, and communication to their students across the country.
They had conversations over various video calling platforms, such as Zoom or Facetime, with students about topics they are interested in, such as movies, games, and school. Their bilingual tutoring activities included:
GPA members Catherine Feng and Yixin Shirley Zhang teamed up to teach their students Jason and Octor English through conversations and reading materials.
Feiying Qian and Yueqi Yu also teamed up to teach their student English through conversations.
Siquan Qiu taught her student English through conversations, worksheets, and reading practice.
Ruofei Olivia Mao also tutored her student English.
Ryan Tian volunteered on 10/2 and 10/9 from 4:15 to 6:15 pm teaching two kids English and math. Ryan also volunteered on 10/4 and 10/11 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm teaching two other kids English and math.
Abigail Bao (10/9, 2 hrs; 10/11, 2 hrs) and Angela Bao (10/9, 2 hrs; 10/11, 2 hrs) teamed up and taught kids in the subjects of English reading and writing, focusing on story-telling.
After their class, Abigail Bao, Angela Bao, Ruofei Mao, and Zihui Xiao (10/9, 1 hr for all) worked together to create an official account on social media for our organization. They closely discussed the positioning of the media, the structure of the staff team, publication plan, responsibilities of contributors, contents, topic, and sections of the articles, the layout of the page, and the AYLUS activities they are going to specifically promote.
By creating an official account, GPA members are able to promote the visibility of the AYLUS organization, encourage communications and corporations among all team members, and provide a more convenient access for our members to organize and participate in our activities. Looking forward to seeing more members join our team!
Anthony F Yang (10/11) did 2 hours of Community Service through the preparation and class of tutoring third graders (Aimee Zhang, Mulan Yang, Nico Fischer, Dayna Li) reading and writing.
