On October 6, 2020, volunteers from the Irvine branch of AYLUS hosted its seventh introductory history class for the fall session. We held the lesson on Zoom, and students, consisting of elementary and middle schoolers, had a great time participating.
During today’s class we talked about the Gilded age and the progressive era, including the economic, political, and social impacts of the age. We explained some important terms like capitalism and imperialism, although the kids had relative difficulty wrapping their heads around them, we just wanted to introduce the ideas to them. We tried to spark some discussions with the use of political cartoons and names – students were, for the most part, active and tried their best to participate in class.
