On October 1st, 2020, from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, volunteer student tutors Jasmine Chen and John Thach from the AYLUS Syosset Branch taught a 2-1 tutoring class for a student of the weekly AYLUS Syosset ESL class.
The students had contacted John and Jasmine specifically for more help on grammar and vocabulary, so in the October 1st tutoring session, our lesson plan and the overall class objective was to help him review/better understand the grammar rules we had taught in the previous class and introduce him to more helpful vocabulary. During the two-hour tutoring session, the tutors also held meaningful conversations with the student about the American culture, experience, and their mutual interests in hopes of strengthening the student-teacher bond and getting the student to speak more. The class was instructed fully in English in an attempt to immerse the students in an English environment.
