On September 5th, 2020, members of the Fairfax AYLUS branch helped collect trash and recyclables littered in Scott’s Run Nature Preserve.
Scott’s Run Nature Preserve is an ecologically unique preserve that is home to many species of plants and animals. It is also where the Scott’s Run Watershed is located, which spans approximately 3,860 acres and contains several major tributaries. In recent years, the preserve has seen higher levels of improper trash disposal and has become more misused. During the summer season, the preserve is especially vulnerable to littering as there is heavier traffic along the trails.
To keep Scott’s Run clean and preserve its wildlife, members of the Fairfax AYLUS branch worked with park staff and other volunteers to pick up and sort trash and recyclables. Members gathered seven bags of trash (black bags) and recyclables (white bags), which were given to park staff for disposal.
