On August 25, 2020, student members of the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) teamed up and taught kids in the subjects of reading and writing.
This week concludes the 1.5 class session taught by GPA members Karen Yang and Kathy Yang since June. Beginning with the warmup which was to write a story including Aunts/Uncles, “Does it matter?” Then, students responded to their peers’ responses. Then, it was time to teach and learn. We first went over last week’s homework, giving them feedback and getting feedback. Using last time’s homework, we taught today’s lesson, which was about writing narratives. Using different techniques, such as building characters, giving background, revising, students also got a look at examples we wrote out for them.
At the end, we presented the homework and bid everyone goodbye. It was rewarding teaching everybody and through feedback, we will see if it interests anyone in future classes!
Anthony F Yang did 2 hours of Community Service through the preparation and class of tutoring third graders(Aimee Zhang, Mulan Yang, Nico Fischer, Dayna Li) reading and writing.
