On 8-12-2020, Matthew Zhu from the East Cobb Branch participated in the English Tutoring Program and tutored for 8 hours.
This program’s goal is to provide English guidance to the elderly who do not know much English. Volunteers are needed for 1 on 1 tutoring sessions. By helping these elderly improve their English, the goal is to make communication smoother and life easier for them.
The parent of the students said that their son just needed more practice talking with English. Not necessarily learning the words. Therefore, that is exactly what we did. We just talked with each other about random subjects through zoom. I also showed him some YouTube videos to further enrich the learning process. We did not have any issues.
The session overall was good, I could have talked a bit slower and clearer but communication overall went without a problem. This interesting experience let me see the many different ways of helping. Helping does not only include cleaning or donating. It can be so much more.
